Below are some observed attitudes of some doubters and skeptics. These ‘types’ are not mutually exclusive. They can overlap others.
“And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29.13 NAS).
(1) hurt, embittered, blames God for some tragedy he’s faced–“God could have prevented it,” (2) libertine protecting sexual pleasures, immorality; (3) campus career caged—job, salary, reputation are at great risk if one bucks the system, the atheist party line–scary; (4) beer buzz Charlie–non-thinking, apathetic secularist away from God; (5) scoffer or champion debater–coming to Jesus would spoil his fun;
(6) assumes Creator God is accountable to him, not the reverse–know-it-all, arrogance, pride; (7) blames God for the evil and suffering in the world; (8) disrespects God: biased, unbalanced approach, has not given equal time to Christian literature; closed minded; (9) real obstacle is not the mind or lack of information but his will; he will not openly consider God; (10) genuinely wants truth!–open to reading the Gospel of John, the Bible and books from Christian scholars –after I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist.
