Some months ago fake $50 bills were being distributed here. Others knock off expensive, high fashion, ladies handbags and more. Similarly there are counterfeit theology knock offs. Liberal theology takes a Bible truth, twists it, waters it down, misuses or perverts it.
Example #1: “We are all God’s children.” Liberal theology kidnaps this comment. It wrongly teaches that we are all saved, all going to heaven. This heresy is called ‘universalism.’ It is attacking God’s justice. True, God loves people but He also loves purity. He hates our sin. God expects, He commands, our obedience. “unless you repent you will all likewise perish” Luke 13.3 NAS.
Yes, we are God’s created creatures. God created us all naturally, physically. God also created the possums and kangaroos. But to become one of God’s repentant, redeemed sons spiritually is quite another matter.
“But as many as received Him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name.” John 1.12 NAS.
“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3.26 NAS.
Example #2: The enemy’s lie can go like this: “There is no absolute truth. Each person can decide what is morally right or wrong for him or her. God is tolerant. He approves of whatever moral or wicked lifestyle one chooses.” This heresy attacks God’ purity, His truth, His authority. Either the Creator sets the rules, reality, or he does not. Which is it?
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers shall enter the kingdom of God. And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.” 1 Cor 6.9-11 NAS.
“Flee immorality . . . For you have been bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.”1 Cor 6.18a,20 NAS.
Yes, we have all sinned . . . all offended a holy God. But some choose to leave that old lifestyle, others remain in it. Repenting is more than talk or attending church. Am I a counterfeit, a knock off? A fake Christian?
Will one accept God’s reality? His absolute truths and clean lifestyle or play the hypocrite?
