“Aren’t all gods just different paths up the same mountain?” “Is it narrow to believe that there is only one way to God?” “Is there absolute truth?” How does the God of the Bible answer these questions? God through His prophet, sets forth truth in Isaiah chapter 44. God points out several ways that he differs drastically with other gods and idols. Below are observations and implications from these verses.
vv-2, 24 “Thus says the Lord who made you.” (Isa 44.2 NAS). God can make people. Imposters, false gods, cannot create. God created you. He is the real God, the real deal.
vv-6 “I am the first, and I am the last.” (Isa 44.6 NAS). God is the “first and the last.: He was there in the beginning. Later arrivals had to be created by the real God. After-market gods, idols are not creators. They are the work of man’s hands or imagination. They are counterfeit, knock-offs, fakes. The devil uses them to steal lost peoples’ trust in Jesus Christ and have their sins forgiven.
vv-7-8 “. . . let them declare to them the things that are coming and the events that are going to take place.” (Isa 44.7 NAS). God challenges false gods to prophecy the future as He does. Prophecy requires supernatural knowledge of the future. Little man’s religious books cannot accurately predict future events. The Bible stands alone here.
vv-9-12 Natural man cannot make a supernatural god. To worship the product of your own hands is foolish. “the craftsmen themselves are mere men.” (Isaiah 44.11 NAS).
vv-14-20 “He cuts cedars . . . half of it he burns in the fire . . . he roasts a roast . . . but the rest he makes into a god.” (Isa 44.14,16,17 NAS). God says that idol makers that take a tree and make both firewood and idol out of it lack common sense. Sin blinds. Sin has messed up one’s mind.
“Thus says the Lord your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, “I, the Lord, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself, And spreading out the earth all alone.” (Isaiah 44.24 NAS).
