Rain Man is the 1988 Dustin Hoffman, Tom Cruise movie about a car dealer and his autistic brother. The brother had a fantastic memory for sports statistics, playing cards and more.
We have a young lady in our church, “Sally” is not so handicapped but has an incredible memory, her Dad says. Sally has begun a ministry. She gives birthday cards to church members. That is her plan, her ministry. She just gave one to my wife.
Wow. If Sally can do that we are so accountable to God for our time and talents. Sally can encourage so many people with her cards. We all get down and need a lift during the week. Helping others gives a reason to live for.
God gives not only peace but purpose for life. She is serving Jesus Christ. Jesus sees what Sally is doing to serve His people.” God is not so interested in our ability as our availability” – unknown.
One of the great men of the New Testament was Barnabas, an encourager! He encouraged Paul.
“But Barnabas took hold of him [Paul] and brought him to the apostles and describe to them how how he has seen the Lord on the road, and that he had talked to him, and how at Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus.” (Acts 9.27 NAS).
