When Satan attacked Jesus personally, Jesus quoted Bible verses. (Matt 4.1-11). The Word is powerful! We need to know and quote it too when we are attacked.
“for he [satan] is a liar and the father of lies” (Jn 8.44). Most of the attacks we face in life are attacks on our faith. Lies wear many disguises: humor, worldly wisdom, false religions, religious books, movies, Professor Humdinger’s latest opinion, PC, idolatry, famous peoples’ lifestyles. Can you spot them?
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” (2 Tim 4.2-4).
1st LIE: There are no fixed, timeless, unchanging, eternal truths.
THIS LIE’S JOB: A. attack God’s power and control over His universe; B. deny Bible truth; C. destroy man’s faith in God and His provision.
ANSWER: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Mt 24.35) . . . “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of God shall stand for ever.” (Isa 40.8). “False prophets shall arise” (Mk 13.22).
2nd LIE: Good and evil are decided by each person not God above. Feelings and opinions vary. What is right for you may not be right for me. We use our mind to create our god. “Believe not every spirit”(1 Jn 4.1).
THIS LIE’S JOB: A. attack God’s sovereignty, wisdom; B. tempt man to forget God; C. appeal to mans’ pride, get him to think of himself as “god”, make up his own rules. As the serpent told Eve, “ye shall be as gods” (Gen 3.5); D. similarly to promote New Age teaching that god is deep within you; E. trade the peacefulness of life in God’s family for separation, lawlessness, strife, violence, misery.
ANSWER: “Forever O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven . . . Salvation is far from the wicked: for they do not seek thy statutes” (Psa 119.89,155). “Satan arrives on the wings of a lie” – unknown.
3rd LIE: It is narrow minded, bigoted, and intolerant to believe that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the only way to heaven.
THIS LIE’S JOB: A. steal the Savior from sin; B. make God sound narrow, unfair, unloving; C. imply that Jesus is not the Son of God; D. make man’s opinions sound more loving than God’s.
ANSWER: Yes, it is narrow minded to believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven – unless it happens to be true. What separates Christ from all other people? Jesus Christ is unique, one of a kind, deity, eternal. Unique in His birth – He was conceived supernaturally by the Holy Spirit (Lu 1.31-35); unique in His life – Jesus lived a sinless life (1 Ptr 1.18-19); unique as His death and resurrection were predicted beforehand (Isa 53.5, 12; Ps 16.10; 49.15; Jn 2.19). No one else is like Christ. Can rocks be compared to a diamond? Christ is more than a good man, prophet or religious leader. Salvation is a person. Jesus IS salvation!
“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God” (1 Jn 4.14-15;5.5) (Jn 14.6; 1 Jn 5.11-13).
4th LIE: All religions are just different paths leading up the mountain to God.
THIS LIE’S JOB is to hide the eternal difference between being “saved” by your own works and salvation through Jesus’ work.
ANSWER: No. This opinion clearly rejects the second commandment: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exod 20.3) (Isaiah chpt 44; Mk 16.15; Jn 1.1-3, 29; 14.6; Act 4.12; Job chpt 38-41; 1 Jn 2.22; 4.10; Deut 19.4).
“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45.22). “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4.12).
But those of other religions and opinions, who reject Jesus will not have their free will violated. They will not be forced into heaven. Hell is proof that God respects man’s freedom of choice. One cannot reject God’s love and still blame Him. Choices matter.
5th LIE: Man’s nature is good, not evil. Man is acceptable to God as he is, not lost in sin. Sin is a small matter. Since man is not lost in sin he needs no savior to pay for his sin. So getting saved from sin is not important.
THIS LIE’S JOB: keep a person from realizing he is a lost sinner and needs to be saved (Isa 59.2; Rom 3.23; 6.23).
ANSWER: “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Gen 6.5).
“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3.3). “Repent ye therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out . . “(Acts. 3.19) (Lu 13.3).
A SINNER’S PRAYER: “Lord Jesus, I confess my sins. I have hurt many people but above all You. Please forgive me. I repent. I believe that Jesus died on the Cross to pay the penalty of all my sins. I now receive Him as my Savior and Lord. ”
